The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry program in Oral Medicine at the Melbourne Dental School is currently under the supervision of Professor Michael McCullough since August 2001. The course at that stage was a combined Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology 3 year post-graduate program that had remained essentially unchanged since its inception in the early 1980’s. The conveners at that time were Prof. P.C. Reade and Dr. B.G. Radden who jointly supervised this program until their retirement in the mid-1990’s, with a large number of successful local and international students. This was the first course of its kind established in Australasia and during that time achieved a preeminent status both within Australasia and Internationally. Successful students were able to enrol as both Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology Specialists upon completion of that course. In 2003 this course was the first in Australia to separate into the two separate disciplines of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, recognizing the need for separate pathways for the training and education of these disciplines. The current program has been significantly enhanced over the past 23 years offering candidates a full breadth of learning to the scope of Oral Medicine.
