Past Meetings


In 2014, OMAA was involved as an organising body in one of the largest international Oral Medicine meetings. The conference was held in Orlando Florida; April 9-12 and was a joint meeting of the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM), the European Association of Oral Medicine (EAOM), and the British Society for Oral Medicine (BSOM). Singapore 2011

In 2011, OMAA sponsored a session at the International Academy of Oral Oncology meeting in Singapore which was held at the Copthorne Waterfront Hotel from 14-17 July.

Speakers included A/Professor Camile Farah, A/Professor M McCullough and Dr M Schifter who collectively covered a symposium on Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders.

During this meeting, OMAA held its inaugural meeting of the Oral Medicine Heads of Training Programs in ANZ.



Sydney 2013

The 2013 Annual meeting was held at the Sebel Surry Hills in Sydney on 22nd February and hosted Professor Sook Bin Woo from Harvard University who discussed Challenges in Oral Medicine.

Melbourne 2012

The 2012 Annual meeting was held at the Rydges on Swanston in Melbourne on 10thNovember and hosted Professor Rafael Benoliel from Hadassah-Hebrew University who discussed Orofacial Pain & Headache.

Brisbane 2011

The 2011 Annual meeting was held at the Hotel Urban in Brisbane on 5th November and hosted Professor Donald Falace from the University of Kentucky who discussed Dental Sleep Medicine for the Oral Medicine Specialist.


Peter Reade Memorial Award

The Peter Reade Memorial Award (PRMA) was created to honor the memory of Professor Peter Reade to promote basic and clinical research in Oral Medicine offered annually at an Academy approved meeting (either national or international).

The award is open to postgraduate students enrolled in a DClinDent program and recent graduates (within 2 years of graduation) of an Academy approved Australian or New Zealand Oral Medicine training program. All applicants must be members of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia.

Abstracts should represent significant thesis-level research. Case reports are not acceptable. Either poster or oral presentation is permitted. Final judgment and decision for the offer of an award rests with the Academy Executive on advice from the Education & Scientific Sub-Committee. Applicants should nominate for this award at the time of submission of an Abstract. There is only one Award offered per year, to the value of $500 AUD with an accompanying Certificate.
